I had an 18k ring appraised at $750 Total liquidation value. How much should I sell it for?

Keep in mind, this isn’t an insurance appraisal, where the value is inflated by 100%. This is the lowest possible value of the piece for swift or important sale.

I had this appraisal done by a very respected appraiser, but no gold buyers/local jewelers I talk to seem to have ever heard of this appraisal.

How can I get someone to buy the ring, when the only appraisal most pple even know about (even on ebay) are the deceptive ones where they end up paying $5k for a ring that is ins appraised at $10k and think they're getting a great deal and only paying half, when they’re actually getting the ring for what’s is really worth.

How much do I sell it for, and how can I get in contact with buyers who know enough about the appraisal to appreciate it?

Answer:
Well, I guess I'd like to answer your question with another question. What difference does it make whether you have a liquidation value appraisal that states it's worth $750, or an insurance appraisal that states it's worth twice or three times that amount? You're going to end up selling it for roughly the same amount. In my opinion, it would be easier to get a regular old deceptive appraisal and sell it that way, getting much less than the appraised value, than to be able to find the small amount of people that are familiar with this strange appraisal you already have.

The only advice I have the ability to give you is to take it to a flea market where they buy gold. There, they don't really care what the appraisal says- they’ll weigh the gold and test its purity and pay you what its worth according to that.

In all likelihood, any jeweler you might end up showing the ring to wouldn't be interested in buying it and re-selling it in its current form, unless it's a popular style. Otherwise, they'll likely melt it down and make something else out of it. In that case, it wouldn't make sense for them to pay any more for it than what they have the ability to buy the raw materials for, so it's not shocking that you’re having difficulty selling it to one.

Well, thanks for the 10 points nonetheless. I didn't mean that my advice is to take it to some Flea Market Jackass who is going to rip you off!!! I am simply telling you that if you want to sell semi fast, then ANY jeweler, located at a flea market or not- can weigh it and pay you what it's worth. Report Abuse

Bottom line is that nobody- neither your “respected” jeweler, or someone else- is going to pay you what you think is fair anyway. If you're so smart, why did you have your “respected appraiser” give you that crappy appraisal anyway??? If you think it's worth it, dish out $100 and get a normal one!!! Report Abuse

Answer:
i'd state from 850-900
