I’m wanting to sell my wedding set. I had a jeweler tell me it was worth about $5000. but he doesn't purchase jewelry. He told me a place to take it. How much should I expect them to purchase it for? Could I at least get half of what it is worth?

Answer:
Well,

The thing is with jewelry, the usual mark-up in the world of retail is about 4.5 to 5 times the cost.

If a jeweler/retailer is telling you the set is worth $5000.00 it does not mean they will pay that because for them, they have to be able to resell it for a reasonable price. This means at most, they might pay you $1500.00 to $2000.00.

You might ask if the jeweler/retailer does consignment. This way you set the price you want, and pay the jewelry store a commission on sale. ( typical is about 25-30% ).

Answer:
you can get half of whats it worth it or less
