Keeping my aquamarine engagement ring clean?
May 9, 2009
My engagement ring is an oval cut aquamarine with diamonds on the band. It is a beautiful ring but it looses it's shine and sparkle so quickly, only a day or two after I clean it. The stone starts to look very cloudy and it turns a lighter shade of blue. I use a jewelry cleaning product (the kind that you soak the ring in and clean with a small brush) but I want to know if anyone has any recommendations for cleaning products or tips on how to keep my ring looking nice for longer.
Thanks in advance!
Answer: I would advocate toothpaste (not gel) and brush it on and make sure u clean it good after. My engagement ring is a heart cut sapphire and does the same thing. It seems to last longer then a day or 2. Also you can take it to a jewelry place in a mall and most will clean them for free. It lasts pretty long too. If in doubt call the place where it is from and ask them about proper cleaning.

Answer: i get my engagement and wedding band cleaned at zales every 6 months and they look absolutely beautiful the first could of days!! i think the mistake i make is showering with the rings, putting lotion on with them. washing my hands with them. idealy you should take them off everytime you do this stuff but i'm too worried about losing them!! i'd rather it be dirty than lost!
Answer: Get a jewelry cleaning solution and keep a contact lense case full of it. Leave your ring in it over night and dry it in the morning, ideally by air if you have time.
