My Grandmother gave me a ring that’s platinum, has 4 diamonds that are at least a half carat each, and are channel set. She also gave me a set of diamond earrings with about 8 small diamonds on each, which are channel set, too. I would like to get the diamonds out of both pieces of jewelry and have them made into a ring I designed. Is this possible, and if so, where can I have it done?

Answer:
If i were you, I'd have them appraised at a jewelry store FIRST. If they're art deco, they could be worth a fortune!!! If you remove the stones and put them into a new setting, you could be losing tens of thousands. I'd advocate taking them to a jeweler and having them appraised for insurance purposes and then begin researching them on line to see what they go for. My guess is, you're sitting on a small fortune. Platinum is very popular right now and a tiny rare. Good luck!
