I thought it was only cheap jewelry with copper in it that did that.

Answer:
Sterling silver is alloyed with various other metals, otherwise it would be too soft to make anything out of it. The majority of the time this alloy is cooper. When copper oxidizes or reacts with something it turns green. So what you might be experiencing here’s a reaction to the copper that the sterling silver is alloyed with. Now, this probably means that you personally are allergic to copper.
The reason most people can wear sterling silver is because it's nickle free - and for most people it's the nickle that causes the allergies not the copper. If your finger also swells up, I would state that is the most definite explanation for what is happening here. Your ring should not be changing colour, and should remain silver. If however you see it stripping, it could be that it is mainly plated with silver and underneath you’ve a copper ring. Stamping it .925 though would make this highly illegal. I would say, the most likely explanation is that you’re allergic.

There are several manufacturers out there now that are alloying the silver with other metals such as platinum, but this makes it more costly. Most jewellery stores will not explicitly know these details as they buy their items in bulk from oversea - unless they make the effort to specifically carry only these items.
Hope this helps.

Answer:
Hi there. To answer your question most cheap jewelry is either nickel or brass that is coated with either fake silver or gold. Your ring is probably covered in sterling silver but it underneath it is nickel or brass. That is probably why your finger is still turning blue-green. I hope this does not offend you, but there could be a possibility that your ring isn’t truly sterling silver either. Most true sterling silver rings should not and won’t do that. I hope that helps.

Answer:
It shouldn't if it's real sterling. Check the inside of the ring, does it have a stamp that states “925″? If not, it isn't silver.

Answer:
Its probably only silver coated. If it states 925 on the inside band than its real and might just be having a reaction. if it says 925pl than its only plated and leave that green ring.

Answer:
its fake
